booting up locks / freezes

on boot up computer freezes after checking ram, auto detecting hardisks etc.
i have changed hardiscs over to another spare one but does the same thing.
unable to log on to windows. maybe it might be the mother board ?

might be bad ram try takeing it out and re inserting it.

Are you getting that single, short "beep" that means it has passed POST?
