Boot Screen Resolution

when i start my computer up the resolution for the boot screen is a 800 x 600 and for some reason its to the side and the right of the screen squashes up, i have tryed putting my res to 800 x 600 and using my moniter settings to change it but it wont work, how do i make it back to normal....
