Hello everyone

I have recently purchased a 32 inch widescreen HD LCD tv and have tried to
run my computer through it - however, the screen resolution is 1280 x 768,
but my XP pro screen properties will opjnly allow me select 1024 x 768 or 800
x 600 ?? any ideas how to install the correct display resolution would be
much appreciated.

thanks in advance : )

Have you tried reading the monitor's manual?

Hi Dave,

This may be a limitation of the video card you are using. If you are
sure you have the most updated drivers, then the only way to push more
resolution for the HDTV will be to purchase a new video card that is
capable of this resolution.

Desktop or laptop?

What do the specs for the video board in your computer say about the
available resolutions?

You need a video card in your computer that supports the required
resolution. You also need the requisite drivers for the video board to allow
your computer to operate at this resolution.

Any decent desktop video board will allow higher resolution than that which
you state you can "only" attain. Update your video drivers. If you have a
laptop, you may be stuck with what you've got.

The fact is that this isn't a montor - its a television - I just wondered if
there was a way of adding a resolution to windows xp that will display the
native HD resolution - does anyone have any more sensible suggestions ; )

The monitor driver or definition file reports to XP what it's capabilities
are. By default XP assigns most all monitors to a generic classification.
Many if not most monitors have a driver disk that allows you to more
closely identify your monitor. However, it's the video driver that limits
what resolutions are available. Are you using the latest video driver for
your card/on-board video ? It might help if you post the vendor/model
of your video card. Also, which output ( or style connector ) are you
using to drive the TV ? ( Analog, Digital, S-Video....)

Then you either need updated drivers for your graphics adapter or you need
to purchase a new graphics card.
For a more specific response you need to post the details on the current
grahics adapter

You need to:

1) Connect using a HD ready cable -- not VGA or SVideo cable

2) Be running the latest video card drivers from the video card manufacturer
and not the ones from Microsoft

3) Locate and install the driver files (if they exist) for the HD LCD TV.

Replace the computer's video adapter with a better one that can produce
the desired resolution(s).

Your video card apparently does not support widescreen resolutions. You can
check at the video card manufacturer's web site to see if there is a newer
driver that will support this resolution, but my guess is that you will
probably have to buy a new video card that supports this resolution.
