I added another stick of memory to my computer, turn the computer on, post runs fine (shows the additional memory) but windows will not start.

I get the following message:
windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
\windows\system32\config\system
You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup cd-rom. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

If I take the memory back out it runs fine.
If I replace the original stick of memory with the new one, it runs fine.

Why?
Should I run the repair?
Will I lose anything on my hard drive?

Thanks

Your two sticks of ram aren't compatible with each other. You'll need to
find one with will pair up well with one of them.
