During the boot of windows xp home edition if I move the
mouse pointer the system with do a total lock up. The
only way to fix it is to press the machine reset button.
On rare occasions it will stay locked up after the re-boot
and need another reset. I tried surfing for solutions and
the only hint of the possible cause had to do with IRQs?
Changing to a different mouse and reinstalling mouse
drivers didn't help, although I may have done something
wrong there.

Its a PS2 mouse and I don't have a USB mouse to test with.

You may want to try contacting your system manufacturer - this is usually
handled by your BIOS.
