Blue Screen "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"

I was chatting on MSN when my Norton SystemWorks started
to scan as programmed to do. I clicked on cancel since I
wanted to do that later and my machine froze...

After doing a cold start (nothing else worked) my system
boots normally up until the XP flash screen appears. Then
the hard disk starts making the sound of the head
searching for data and not finding any about 4 times and
then the blue screen appears with the following message:

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
STOP: 0x000000ED (0x833A0E30, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000,
0x00000000)

Have I just lost my hard drive or could there be a quick
fix to the situation ???

Thanks in advance for the info !

It "Could" be data corruption. If you have a Windows XP CD
boot to it, and choose Recovery Console. It will prompt for a
password for the administrator account which is null (Just press
Enter). At the prompt type Chkdsk C: \R
If the problem is related to cross-linked files or any of a number
of common disk faults the Chkdsk may be able to repair them.
Otherwise, you may be faced with a Repair install.

A Chkdsk with \Repair can take a fair amount of time, so plan
on the operation taking the better part of an hour.

Yep !

Did just that and it fixed everything ! Seems SystemWorks
might have corrupted some data when I cancelled its
operation.

Thanks for the information !
