Blue Screen Stops

I've been getting a lot of blue screen stop messages that halt mycomputer.
About 2 weeks ago this was happening once a day. It became more frequent
until yesterday it was happening every time I tried to boot up during the
boot process. Last night, I finally copied off all of my files, formatted the
hard drive, and installed a new copy of Vista Premium. Believe it or not, I
still have the same problem - although now I can boot up and get some work
done before a crash happens.

This is a Sony Vaio laptop with 1.25 gigs of ram and a 70 gig hard drive.
The error messages are always different. I didn't write any of them down, but
they are like "Subset not less than zero" and "Page fault in non-paging area"
and "IQL server not found" (I'm sure these aren't right, but you get the idea)

So, how could this be happening on a clean and formatted hard drive with a
brand new operating system? Is the problem in the BIOS or the motherboard or
somewhere else?

Have you gone into Device Manager and checked on status of your Hardware
Drivers?
Have you reinstalled the Motherboard drivers from computer manufacurer, or
installed the CD of drivers to do it?

Yuo need to copy / post the relevant Error / Warning Reports from Event
Viewer. They should contain the type of information detailed below but the
layout on screen is different:

Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-HttpEvent
Date: 11/06/2008 18:44:58
Event ID: 15016
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: GerryC-PC
Description:
Unable to initialize the security package Kerberos for server side
authentication. The data field contains the error number.
Event Xml:

I have snipped the latter part as it is not usually needed.

Select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Windows Logs, System

Hope this helps

Since you are getting the blue screen (and quoting the text of the Stop
Error would have been very helpful), most probably this is a hardware
fault. There is no way to tell you from here which component(s) is the
culprit. You can do some hardware troubleshooting, but if the machine is
under warranty I'd just contact Sony tech support and get it
repaired/replaced.

Laptop fans often get clogged with dust, such that they gradually run hotter
and hotter. Intermittent blue screens like this are typical of a
heat-related hardware problem.

It could be memory errors.

1.25 gigs doesn't sound like a rounded number Sony would put in a laptop.
Did you upgrade the RAM yourself?

Trying making a "MemTest86+" disc and booting off of it. It will try and
test your memory.

Also, write down the error messages you get, including the STOP codes
(something like "0x00000000")
