Home Premium Install Blue Screens

Strange

I've tried loading Home Premium 64 bit on 2 different machines, and they are
both blue screening after the initial install off the DVD and the computer
tries to boot off the hard drive for the first time. Blue screen happens to
fast to read. System reboots and tries to startup again. Now here's
something really intersting for all those about to say I have some hardware
conflict, Vista Ultimate loads and runs fine. I have a legal copy of
ultimate coming, so I'll use that to see if this DVD I got now has somekind
of error on it. Anyone seen anything like this? Premium wont load but
Ultimate will?

Hi Strange,

Are these machines ones that you are trying to upgrade? Do they currently
have XP on them? If so, check via Disk Management whether the hard drives
are 'basic disks' or 'dynamic'. Home editions of Vista do not support the
use of dynamic disks.

We could be getting somewhere. Yes both machines had XP on them and the
disks were dynamic. But I am doing a clean install (as that is the only way
to load the 64-bit versions) and I format first. Wouldn't this eliminate the
dynamic-ness of the disk? Also, in both cases, the "disk" is a SATA raid
with a 2 disk mirror.

Thank you, that must have been it. I reset the array by deleting it and
creating a new one and clearing the disks. I did my Home Priemium install
and now it's starting up fine!

Thanks Jane!
