Blue Screen of Death

I have Windows XP, SP3 on my computer with the operating system installed on
my c drive. I have a second drive which I have used to store the backup
files from NovaBackup 7.5. I am no longer able to load anything but Safe
Mode With Command Prompt. Other versions of Safe Mode do not load. If I
restart windows I get the Blue Screen which indicates that a file KLIF.sys is
a problem. This is a Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 file.

I would like to know how I can get back to a useable version of windows XP
on either the c: or d: drives without losing any of my data files which are
widely scattered on my c drive. I cannot do a restore of my backup files on
the D: drive unless I have a functioning Windows XP. Both drives are 160
GBytes or larger and both are using NTFS file formats.

Posting a complete copy of the Stop error report would be a good start.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing the F8
key during Start-Up and select option - Disable automatic restart on
system failure.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Hope this helps.

Suggest you try using google.com to troubleshoot this problem. Using the
search criteria: KLIF.sys "blue screen" , I got over a 1700 hits so it
appears you are not the only one with the problem. You could refine your
search by including more of the error notice.

The BSOD says:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to you computer.

The problems seems to be caused by the following file: dlif.sys

The driver unloaded without cancelling pending operations.

If this id the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appers again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If
this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for
any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or
software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you
need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable compeoents, restart your computer,
press F8 to select Advance Statup options, and then select Safe Mode.
