it starts to dump my physical memory. after which it restarts again and
the cycle continues. the other thing is am able to boot to safe mode

There is no SP3 for Windows XP so I don't know what you did.

Since you can get into Safe Mode, you should uninstall whatever you
installed and possibly do a System Restore.

maybe you mean sp3 for office?

you can uninstall almost all updates from microsoft
via add/remove programs....

but first you can simply go back
to a functional state / restore point
via safe mode.

if the above doesnt work then do
a windows "repair" with your
windows setup cd.

boot with it, select new install, point
to your current installation listed, then
say yes to repair

afterwards consider using something
like PageDefrag from sysinternals.com

To create a good post:
- Name your operating system (it's Win2000, isn't it?)
- Post in the correct newsgroup. This one looks at WinXP issues.
- Do not multi-post - it wastes everybody's time. Use cross-posting
if you wish to reach more than one group.

Answered in another newsgroup. Please do not send the same message
separately to more than one newsgroup (called multiposting). Doing so just
fragments the thread, so someone who answers in one newsgroup doesn't get to
see answers from others in another newsgroup. And for those who read all the
newsgroups the message is multiposted to, they see the message multiple
times instead of once (they would see it only once if you correctly
crossposted instead). This wastes everyone's time, and gets you poorer help
than you should get.

If you must send the same message to more than one newsgroup, please do so
by crossposting (but only to a *few* related newsgroups).

Please see "What is the accepted way to share a message across multiple
newsgroups?" at http://smjg.port5.com/faqs/usenet/xpost.html

Cross-post when necessary, but never multi-post. Cross-posting is when you
include two or more groups in the "Newsgroups:" section. In this scenario
the message and all responses are seen in all groups that the message was
cross-posted to. In other words any replies will automatically propagate to
the other newsgroup posts.

Multi-posting is when you post the same message to two or more groups
individually. In this scenario the message is seen in the groups it is
posted to, but the responses are only seen attached to the message (unless
you cross-post the reply) in which the response was made. So those that
frequent these groups then need to deal with or re-read the posts. It may
seem like a small thing to keep track of. But some of us actively traverse
50 or more groups. The poster also then must search out all of the posts to
see if there was a response.
