Blue Screen of death - DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I all of sudden started getting this message when trying to boot my laptop. I
have tried booting in safe mode, with last know good config, and normal, but
seconds after I make my choice the BSOD shows up. All potential solutions I
find require the system to be up and running. What can I do??

Can you run a floppy based memory tester?

There is no floppy drive only a CD. I could burn a memory tester on a CD from
another computer. What memory tester would you suggest?

Can you please post a complete copy of the Stop Error report.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing the F8
key during Start-Up and select option - Disable automatic restart on
system failure. Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure.
Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

What is your computer make and model?

What exactly do you have by way of a Windows XP CD?

Try booting with only keyboard, mouse and monitor connected.

Does the system restart before the boot completes or shortly after?

Have you recently added any hardware or software?

What are your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements?

Gerry,
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop.
I have the reinstallation CD for XP Pro SP2
The system comes up with a screen saying that Windows did not Start
successfully, choose whether you want to start in Safe Mode, Last Know
Good..., or Start Normally. No matter which option I choose it brings me to
the BSOD and goes no further.
The user has told me he has not added anything recently.
I believe this machine is running McAfee for the AV.

Hi Doug,

It is rather common encounter of such cases after one updated his system.
Although the updates may be suggested by trusted program, but the lack of
knowledge by such software about your system could be the root cause of this
problem. I had a ThinkPad which encountered this error after I installed
optional updated from ThinkVantage System Update.

Anyway, have you tried booting your system from the CD?

P.S. This problem also occurs when your RAM is corrupted. Personally, I
would rather have hoped that I had a bad driver update when I see this BSOD.
