Boot Error - Blue Screen - DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Please Help Anybody - I am dead in the water!

When I power up my desktop I am receiving the ugly blue screen with the
following contents: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Tech info: STOP: 0X000000D1 (0X00000018, 0X00000002, 0X00000000,
0XF821225F); iastor.sys - Address F821225F base at F8203000m, DateStamp
42b2df42

I have Dell XPS system running Windows XP Media Center Version. Please note
that I have attempted to Restore my system to the last working configuration
by going to the Advanced Start Up Option to no avail. In addition, I was not
supplied a Start Up CD when I purchased the computer directly from Dell.

You can order a system CD here for free:

http://support.dell.com/support/top...e/en/backupcd_form?c=us&l=en&s=gen&redirect=1

I got a system disk using this link; however, a Dell rep told me they did
not have the driver CD so if you need drivers, you will have to download
them from the Dell site.

Have you tried starting in safe mode (tapping the F8 key when the PC starts
to boot)? If it boots:

Hey Ron,

Thanks for the quick reply...I have tried booting my machine in all three of
the safe modes but the blue screen appears each time.

Hey Nass,

Thanks for getting me through the DRIVER_IRQL error but during the restart I
got the blue screen again and the new error is UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME -
STOP: 0X000000ED (0X8239988, 0Xc000009C, 0X00000000, 0X00000000).

Any advice on this one?

Try to download the Diagnostic tool for your Hard Drive from the
manufacturer Website of your Had drive and test the health of the HDD.
The chkdsk /r should correct the problem

Hey Nass,

Thanks again for the information! However, if I am unable to boot up my
machine how can I perform the chkdsk/r on the health of the HDD? I have
requested a set of restore cd's from Dell and it's my assumption that I will
have to do a restore prior to downloading of the fixes you mentioned in your
response.

Your thoughts are welcomed!

Hi Ken,
If you able to Boot into safe mode you can try the System Restore from there.
Also you can right click your partition (C:\) and select properties.
On the Drive Properties click on Tools Tab then click on Ceck Now under
Error-Checking. A pop up window will come up please check mark both check
boxes and Restart your machine.
Does this help?
Another try the BIOS alteration option mentioned in one of the KB articles.
HTH.
Keep us posted.

Hey Nass,

I only get as far as the "blue screen" in any of the safe modes I select in
the Advanced Setup Options. Hence, I believe I have to wait for the restore
cd's to arrive from Dell to do System Restore.

Yea or nay?
