Blue Screen of Death HELP

My computer running Windows Xp SP2 plus all updates and secured by Norton is
throwing up a BSOD every 30 minutes or so plus random shutdowns and reboots.
The BSOD carries codes:-

BC Code 10000008E, BCP1 C00000, BCP2004DDB57, BCP3 B5 CPU 3.20GHz7B68C0,
BCP4 00000000,
OS VERS 5_1_2600 , sp 2_0, PRODUCT 768_1

and

0x000000A , 0x8E22B2B0, 0x000000 , 0x00000000 , 0x804FD112

and

Message at bottom says 'Dumping physical memory to disk'.

Note I may have got the number of zeros wrong but the code letters are
correct ( I think - and hope! )

The box has a Pentium 4 and 512 memory fitted.

Can anyone point me at a solution please.

That error usually means hardware problems/incompatibility, including
bad drivers. Did you make any changes recently? Add any new hardware or
update a driver? If yes, undo the changes and see if that helps. If no,
do some hardware troubleshooting:

Standard caveat: Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out
suspected parts with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing
yourself and/or are uncomfortable opening your computer, take the
machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local
equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). Have all your data backed up
before you take the machine into a shop.

Have you backed up important data files? If not do so immediately as
these type of errors can soon result in failing to be able to access the
disk.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure even after you have
solved the problem as it's better disabled. Check for variants of the
Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select
option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

If you are using a wireless keyboard and the F8 key does not work
substitute a wired keyboard and mouse for this exercise only.

What appears on the line below:

Same question applies to the other error message.

What is your Windows XP CD as it is described on the face of the CD?

What is your computer make and model? How old is it?

What was the last hardware and last software added? Is there any
connection timewise between making the changes and the problems
starting?

Is your RAM memory made up of two sticks or a single stick?

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Many thanks for your fast replies.

I have backed up - and do so frequently being 80yo and having lost one eye
to medical incompetence!#

I have now disabled automatic restart and await the next recurrence.

I am not using a wired keyboard etc. I have not installed any new programs
or hardware in the past six months.

I await the next recurrence to report what happens below................!

My Windows - validated = is Dell program - I have just moved house and the
disk is in
one of 50 boxes stacked in the loft.

The computer is about six years old and from an independent builder.

As said no additions in at least the last six months and well before the
problems arose.

The memory stick DDR2 was replaced when the problem arose but it was a
'pre-owned' stick which functioned after install and well before the
problem.

there are no yellow question marks.

When I was younger cars were simpler and I could mend them. Today!
I cut my teeth on DOS but now I am too old!!!

Time to do the suggested hardware testing then or to have a professional
computer repair shop do it for you.

Get rid of Norton ASAP.

if you have on board video.try switching it from vga card to on board video
and see what that does..
