Blue Screen of Death

Good day,

I am running a optiplex GX50 running Windows XP Pro SP2 with all updates.
Of late I started getting a BSOD out of the blue.

Win32k.sys
The driver is attempting to access memory beyond the end of the allocation

Stop: 0x000000D6
(0x89781000, 0x00000000, 0xBF82683F, 0x00000000)

Win32k.sys address BF82683F base at BF80000 date stamp 422511a2

Can somebody tell me where I can find info on these BSOD messages. I have
looked this up on TechNet and Microsoft web site with no luck or nothing
that matches what I have (Win2k only)

I don't have an exact answer for you, but I would start by testing your
RAM. I like Memtest86+ from www.memtest.org. Obviously, you have to get
the program from a working machine. You will either download the
precompiled Windows binary to make a bootable floppy or the .iso to
make a bootable cd. If you want to use the latter, you'll need to have
third-party burning software on the machine where you download the file
- XP's built-in burning capability won't do the job. In either case,
boot with the media you made. The test will run immediately. Let the
test run for an hour or two - unless errors are seen immediately. If
you get any errors, replace the RAM.

Hi Adam,
you are correct,there is similar incident for win2k.
Anyway you check your RAMs.May be they are faulty.If they are ok then
try a clean installation.

To locate the exact problem of the stop error, we need to analyze the crash
dump file. Unfortunately, we cannot help you analyze the dump file in
newsgroup. To trouble shoot this problem efficiently, I suggest that you

Good day,

I will try to answer all the questions here and have some new ones.

I have installed twice as clean installs and it always happens. The system
would start using High CPU 100% for some time and then crash (give or take)

I have tested the memory with memtest and let it run. Also removed the new
memory and the same thing happens. CPU up there or when I move the mouse it
goes to 100%

Will it cost anything to send it over to Microsoft for them to look at.
What is the cost involved in that.

Well I guess that is it. I will try another memory test to see what
happens. Perhaps something will show up.
