Blue screen message when I boot up

When I boot up I get a message telling me that It needs to check file system
C, the type of the file system is NTFS and one of your disks needs to be
checked for consistency. Not knowing much about computers I'd really
appreciate some help. What did my kids do to it?

Its called a Checkdisk and basically it runs and checks to verify that all
of the information stored on your HD is in its proper place and has the
right tags to connect one bit of info to the next.It also verifies that you
have no bad spots on your HD and if set properly will try to correct those
or tag them so that no info gets written to those spots.
Moving huge amounts of info over time causes mistakes...it just happens
