Blue screen crash, STOP Error code 000000f4

Looking for suggestions on how to troubleshoot this - I'm experiencing an
ongoing lockup of various flavors, not repeatable but recurring every few
days. Typically results in a reboot to the system logo and it just sits
there, requiring hard power off to recover. It seems like a hardware issue
of some sort but I don't know how to confirm that. Most times disk access
light is on full. Using event viewer I have identified 5 occurrences of a
STOP error code 000000f4. I've also identified 3 occurrences of disk
problems with code \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block. A few of these
events align with the dates of logged occurrences of the crash.

I've also noted an ongoing high pitch faint hum from it that comes and goes,
often coincident with disk access but not always. This typically is more
prevalent when first turned on and then subsides. It sounds like feedback
but it's not coming through the speakers and I've disconnected the microphone
just to try to eliminate it. There have been some instances where it
appeared to lock up only to recover in a minute or so, with disk access on
full during that. By disk access, by the way, I mean the light is on but I
don't hear any actual disk activity occurring. I'm looking for suggestions
about how to proceed.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Doug!

I am experiencing the same problem. I went to the suggested site, got
an idea about the problem might be but don't know how to fix it. Did
you manage to solve it?

Thank you,
