Blue screen - cannot start from floppy

Been passed a Dell running XP Pro that cannot be booted and I've taken on the
challenge. Message says unmountable boot drive and Gives the infamous STOP
message with 32 in the second group in the brackets. PC will not boot from
the CDROM so following previous threads have created the 6 setup floppys and
attempted to get to the recovery console.
After much time and effort I've given up. I've had crashes part way through
the setup at different points, Disk 1 always starts the setup, disk 2 has
stopped unable to load ntkernlmp.exe (Error code 7) but after reburning the
floppys I've got past this point. Disk 3 stopped at setupdd.sys could not be
loaded (error code 7) again reburnt and have now got to disk 4 (or was it 5?)
where the message is 'file i8042prt.sys is corrupted'.
What should I do next or am I jut wasting my time with this challenge.

Thanks Jim - I assume I still need to get to the recovery console to find
this though. How do I get there?

Unbootable PC having too many problems with no apparent common thread,
and no idea of what might have caused the problems.

On my XP system it was Ctrl+Enter as it started booting .
