booting windows XP install floppy no cdrom detected.

Hello.

I have purchased a new mobo, cpu & hard disk and I want to instal
winXP pro. I can not boot win XP setup to the cdrom without a STOP:
error (0x07b).
Which indicates a disk error per the research I've done.

I have tried EVERY one of MS solutions for that error, nothing
helps.

(I have a maxtor 250gb that detects as 251gb in bios)

I also tried using the 6 XP setup discs, the result when it goes to
setup after going through all the floppies, is an error "setup can not
find a cd-rom drive"

I know my cdrom is there,It is in BIOS, it boots maxblaster cd fine and
reads data on it. I have checked master/slave settings, replaced ide
cables, as well as tried a few other cdrom drives. No matter what I get
these errors.

this is day 4 of my trials and I've not got anywhere figuring this out.

I am really at a loss what to do. I'm not an average newbie, and have
installed win XP before, but not on this configuration.

Maxtor 250gb HD (master), Sony rewritable cdrom drive (master on
secondary cable), MSI K8N Neo v2.0 mobo, amd athlon 64 (+3000) on
board lan, usb ATI AIW 9600.. thats the only thing installed now.

I've never run into this and alot of other people I've inquired to are
baffled as well.

Please help, I need this PC for work.

You may like to try configuring the CD ROM as slave on the primary IDE
channel, just in case the secondary IDE channel is the problem.

Well, as an update, I did three things and it worked. I'm not exactly
which one fixed it. My power supply had 4 places to put power cables
for hardware, I moves the 2 I was using into the space that were not
being used, I bought a brand new dvd drive (writer) and I replaced the
IDE cables with brand spakin new ones. BTW: why the heck doesn't new
dvd roms come with new IDE cables? hmm?
