Blank DVD disc not recognised by PC

I have started having problems with blank DVD discs not being recognised.
The message I get is ' H:\ is not accessible - incorrect function
I have tried Sony, Philps, HP and Memorex discs.
In caser it was a hardware problem, I bought a new DVD rerwriter but still
have same problem.
Disc's with information on read OK.

I am using XP Professional on my PC

I tried these discs in my laptop and they read OK.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

If this happened "suddenly" , use system restore to when it worked .

You might try browsing to the disc with other programs than Explorer. I
found that after installing a DVDRW drive to our pc, Explorer tended to say
there was no disc, but Windows Media Player could find it and browse it.
Once WMP had found it, Explorer could then see it. No idea why. Perhaps it
will work for you.

Peter,
Thanks for the reply.
I tried both suggestions but unfortunately it did not fix the problem.
In the short term I will use my latop for for doing copies and wait until I
re-load Windows on my PC

Are you using Nero by any chance? Have you installed any dvd software prior
to this issue?
