Monitor goes blank

Strange problem. When I try to burn a DVD, my monitor goes blank and the
computer freezes up. It will read the disc ok until I start to burn then it
shuts the monitor off. Any suggestions. I have had this sony dvd burner for
2 years without a hitch until recently.

double check you bios
and see if you have video
shadow copy support.

perhaps, you can adjust
it to a number higher than
zero,

that is if you have such
a bios setting.

The question to ask yourself is what has changed if it work fine for the
last two years. If you can think of nothing, than consider cleaning the
inside of the computer. Make sure the fans are clean & working, make sure
the heat sink is free from dust, check fan on video card if one exists and
reseat the memory. It is possibly that the system is overheating due to a
build up of dirt, failing fans and hot summer conditions in an unventilated
area. When you burn the dvd, more resources are required possibly causing
the processor or video card to overheat.

Video card... maybe. If the processor overheats the whole shebang
will shut down. File that away in your memory bank for the next time.
