Monitor goes BLANK

My monitor has a nasty habit of going blank several times during any session.
While working on PC, and I move the mouse, the screen goes blank and stays
blank until it decides to come on again. I have taken montor to another PC,
and it worked all the time, did not go blank. Working with Win XP. Have
checked connections, and no apparent problem there. Where should I pinpoint
my search for a resolution?

What happens when you install the most recent WinXP-specific video
drivers, as provided by your video adapter's manufacturer's web site?

If that doesn't solve the problem, it may be time to consider getting a
new video adapter.

Sounds like a problem with the video card.

Have you tried bindly rebooting? That would hint whether it is hardware
or software related to the computer. The monitor of course sounds just
fine.

Yup; maybe heat related with the humidity & heat lately. Maybe a box
fan pointed into the front of the machine and set to high would show
longer cycles or even stop the problem if it's heat. If programs keep
working while it's blanked (like setting up a number-cruncher or
something) then it'd definitely point to the video card. If everything
stops during the blank, then it's more likely something else like the
cpu or ??? . Maybe just a bad fan too; you never know. Might be time
to open 'er up and dust off the innards if needed and check for cables
impeding air flow.

Additional information, seems as if the graphics driver has been compromised
somewhat, throws the PC into an infinite loop, and if I could get my system
disks to take, I could possible 'repair' the installation. or I could use the
device driver CD and put a good driver back on the PC. However, could not
sign on in SAFE mode, it keeps going into the loop and does not let me use
the mouse quick enough to do anything.
