the monitor light goes yellow and the screen goes blank.
when i press a key the monitir light goes green and the screen
lightens up i little bit, but stays blank.
it won't un-hibernate.
if i shut press the on/off button on the PC i can hear the windows
shut-off music.
i have cleared up up some drive space, defragged, and ran chkdsk.
no fix.

First, it is NOT hibernating. In hibernation mode all power is shut off and
to resume from Hibernation you
press the power on button. You seem to be in sleep mode where the monitor
shuts down to save power but system
power stays on. Do you have keyboard and mouse configured to bring out of
sleep mode?

My unfortunate misuse of words. Sleep and hibernate are synonymous. I should
have said 'Standby'
Standby keeps power on and shuts of the monitor and HD.
Have you checked your mouse and keyboard settings? BIOS settings?
In power options do you have hibernate tab?
