bizarre changes to word 2003 documents

When I open word 2003 documents in word 2007, documents that have undergone a
"save as" several times, to new folders for new projects, the documents open
as the original document with all the save as versions piled on top of each
other. I can't make any sense out of the file. How can I see the file as the
most recently saved version?
Please help as I have deadlines to meet.
Thanks
Johne

Were you using File | Versions in earlier releases of Word? I believe
versioning is no longer supported in Word 2007, which could explain
what you are seeing.

Stefen, I do not know. All I know is that I have dozens, if not hundreds of
long multipage documents which open perfectly normally in Word 2003, but are
an unrecogzizable (and for me unusable) jumble of every revision, deletion,
and correction ever made to the documents over a several year period. I am
now missing deadlines in my work and am quite distressed. Is my only solution
to junk Word 2007 and go back to Word 2003??
Thanks,
Johne

Well, you could open the document on a computer with Word 2003 and look in
File | Versions. Note, however, that if you are not familiar with the version
feature (and you are the only editor), it seems unlikely to be the cause of
trouble. I'm not using Word 2007 yet, so I can't offer any specific solutions
for that version.

You can find general suggestions for fixing corrupt documents at
