I recently transferred computers and when the My documents transferred all of
the word files (doc) were converted to wordpad files. Now word will not save
a document as a .DOC it defaults to wordpad even when I save as and select
word file it will save it a wordpad file. how do I convert them back to a
..DOC file and set word to save them as a .DOC. This is bad because I have a
thesis to write and cant save as a DOC. Pleasae help.

word will open the wordpad files but when I save the file as a word document
it will over ride the directions and save it as a wordpad file.

If it is saving it as a .doc, it is *not* saving it as a WordPad file; you
are just seeing the WordPad icon because WordPad has grabbed the .doc file
association. You need to reregister Word to correct this; see
