Bit in the ass by ATI. Again.

What would you say then, to a Beetle than ran in the 11s? Because there
was
one, the EMPI Inch Pincher. I'm surprised you never heard of it.

Don't you know? A car MUST be a V8 with some ridiculous amount of capacity
to be any good.
V8s will beat ANYTHING!!

Including the petrol pump at the gas station if you forget to turn the
engine off. ;-)

I'd say it's an aberration and completely unrepresentative of the breed...
So put that one bug in the Guinness book of records and move it.
Realistically, with some "bullet" VW motor that took longer to build than it
lasted at full throttle, there's nothing to talk about when it comes to drag
racing except +7 liter american iron if it's running on gasoline. If it's
not running on gas, it's still patterned after V8 production engines, and
air cooled aluminum 4 cylinders have as much chance as a snowball in hell of
doing anything except making a nice fire at the 1000 foot line, if they make
it that far...

Well, let's see, they ran that Beetle for about ten years IIRC.

Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Now, how do you feel about the guy who tows his stuff to Bonneville behind a
6 cylinder diesel pickup that tops 200?

Sour grapes... LOL. You buried yourself on this "bettle rules" hallucination
and now you want to talk about sour grapes... What a crack up.

You would be better served by limiting your comments to something you know
about. No offense, but drag racing isn't it...

Yeah, sour grapes.

Looks like you really have nothing to contribute other than braggadocio.

Bye-bye.

By the way, the 917K was also a product of Volkswagen.

BX is a dinosaur. I never very much liked the BX. I used the VIA pro 133. I
had my old P3/550 at 160Mhz FSB with memory bandwidth way higher then anyone's
BX board.

I'm currently running a P4 at 3600Mhz with a 9800pro, water cooled.

I've had many of the nVidia and ATI cards over the years. Not sure which
side I'll go to after this 9800 but ATI's technology is just so good and
driver support for ATI is actually superior to nVidia. You know, everyone
from the good old days of nVidia are gone, many now work for ATI.

LOL... Looks as though the nail was hit right on the head. Next time you
start typing, try to start thinking a couple a minutes beforehand. It just
may preempt some of the ridiculous stuff you're "credited" with here.

Damn this is a long thread! I don't normally get involved with flame wars,
but I'll throw in my .02 fwiw...

A.) all else being equal, there is no substitute for CID
B.) not all races are in a straight line
C.) in a "run what you brung" 1/8th mile drag, I might be tempted to opt for
a VW over a V8

I used to race VWs, my last race in 1982 at OCIR --
www.calcube.com/bugdoct.jpg -- and there were a couple of turbo VW rails
that were turning 9s that day. This was at a time when VW racers were
beginning to experiment with turbos. And yes, keeping the motor together was
the biggest concern for those engine builders. There's no question that in
order for a VW to be competitive with a V8, it would require a much more
radical approach to engine mods, but because the cars are so light and with
the engine over the rear wheels, they left the line rather quickly.

Having said that, ny favorite muscle car was the '69 Z28 (factory crossram
with dual quads), with the '69/70 Boss 302 (with shaker scoop and rear wing)
a close second. By today's standards they weren't that fast, but they sure
looked like they meant business. We don't need no steenking aerodynamics (or
plastic)...

Love to see the pics of your '69, Bob.
