MSI and ATI

GuessWho

I missed this group on an initial search; so I posted to the MSI group but
that group doesn't seem to too active these days.

At any rate, I think I'm going to move the nVidia 6200 card in this machine
to my wife's machine so she'll be able to use all the Vista features and I'm
considering an ATI X1xxx series card as a replacement. Mostly because ATI
AGP cards are reasonably priced compared to nVidia AGP cards.

However, I've read somewhere that some ATI cards don't play nice with some
MSI mobos. At the time I saw this reference it didn't seem important; so I
didn't save it.

The MSI board I'm using is a 7025 K8N. I also have a spare 7125 K8N board
which is a pci-e board but I'd prefer to stick with the 7025 board because I
won't have to deal with a clean or repair install and then deal with MS
re-activation.

I was wondering if anyone is using either of these MSI mobos with ATI X1xxx
series video cards without any problems.

Neither of us are gamers and the most demanding thing that is done on either
machine is OTA HDTV recording and encoding to DIVX using BeyondTV.

Do all the video cards with the X1xxx chipsets have Avivo? Would Avivo speed
up the DIVX encoding of HDTV recorded with BeyondTV?

TIA,

Wayne

I'm using ATI (Sapphire) Radeon X1600XT in an MSI K8N Neo4-F (7125)
without any problems. Be sure though to download and install the most
recent ATI drivers for the vid card. Also install .NET framework from
Microsoft as the CCC use it. (Works A-1 here, no problems)
As to your other questions perhaps its best to look in on the ATI
forums. I know my X1600XT has both Avivo and HD..

Good luck.
