Hi Bro!

Tell your friend that the first five books of the Hebrew's Old
Testament *ARE* the Torah. By getting both testaments of the Holy
Bible, your friend automatically gets the Torah.

You might suggest to your friend that he can also do searches for
e-texts of the Apocrypha and "lost" gospels that are reputed to have
been written by Apostles other than Matthew, Mark Luke and John. You
may find these on http://www.gutenberg.org/ but Google should have
listings for them too.

Tell your friend to look up texts kept by the Essenes and the Gnostics
as well. Some of their writings are an "alternative lifestyle" to the
accepted mainstream Christianity that we know today, but they make for
some fascinating reading and historical background.

The best, without a doubt.

Just remember if you download esword, you will also want to download a
Bible or two to go with it, else you'll only have the King James Version
and your friend probably doesn't want the thee's and thou's.

My recommendations would be to d/l e-sword and then download the English
Standard Version bible to go with it.

Just my $.02

I beg your pardon? "Hebrew Translation"????? You do realise that the
Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew? (Oh yes, and Aramaic
and so on.)

The so-called "New Testament" was written in Greek and Latin, the two
big-selling languages for fiction of their day.

Cheers,

Latins turned to one. Apollo & CO. is residing on chipsets and so. My
dear, what happened :-|

Martin Luther is the first, who translated the christ-bible to german
language. He had got big troubles with the vatican, but he was a
dual-specialist, IMO.

What is the 'new testament'? :)
Also keep in remind that the 'Torah' is written from right to left and
the Latin bible in stone. ;-)

Reading everything is probably the best and opens the mind for any
religion, culture and ceremonial acts.........

The Hebrew Torah is a "translation"? From what?

he says that the hebrew translation of the torah is legit and anything
else in any language (such as what we call the old testament) is not.
he's one of those scholars that does not consider the old testament a
legit translation of the torah.

He's one of those people who's a "scholar" because he says he is. If
he tells you the time look at your watch, because it's clear that he
doesn't know what he's talking about. The Old Testament *IS* the
Torah, it's not a translation of anything..

O.K. every honor to the hebrew, but are you really sure the old
testament belongs only to the hebrew?

It would help if you knew what you were talking about. The Old
Testament is very much a translation - from the original Hebrew. There
are many Biblical scholars who read the original Greek and Hebrew and
don't regard the English as definitive. They'd rather read the
original. He's not a scholar because he says he is, he's a scholar who
wants to get as close as possible to the source.
