{semi-OT} parental control software

A friend of mine lives alone and has a problem with Internet
pornography. He is dealing with it in a spiritual way right now and
most probably will be able to break the habit if he continues to do
what he is doing.

I have suggested he move the computer into a common area of his house
and leave the curtains open. As an additional level of insurance I
suggested he install parental control software on his own computer to
force him to go an extra step if he has a weak moment. We realize he
can easily defeat the program if he wishes, but at least he'll have to
think about it first.

What freeware parental control software do you recommend for this kind
of situation? What other suggestions do you have?

No, this is really for a friend. I have one computer in my house and
it's in the living room where the wife and kids hang out all the time.

If he's a grown man and has an unhealthy "obsession" with pornography, there
is little you can do - irrespective of the programs etc, you install.

Short of installing protection against his visiting them and not telling him
the passwords there is actually nothing you can do (and even then, the
former will only work if he's not capable of disabling/uninstalling such).
By far the best solution is to ban him from computers (i.e. take his
computer away from him) for a minimum of 6 months and see how he copes.

There are times when porn accidentally appears whenever you browse the
interent. The parrental control programs would help prevent that. But
if he wants to see porn, he can see it if he is the administrator of
his computer.

Yes. Full sucking-in pictures.

I know what you mean, but mostly on websites with crakez, warez and so.

I had also every kinds of copies, pirated or not but today pirate-sites
are full of porn-links. Of course, a bit of trouble for today pirate
childs...
