a general consensus at a.c.f? perish the thought ;) (and i mean that in a
very positive way)

my own favourite is winamp. the gui (i'm using the latest version but with
the old classic skin) is very user friendly. i would however suggest that if
you do opt for winamp that you select the 'custom install' option and
install only the components you actually want.

It appears there is a concensus for Winamp but personally I've been using
dbpoweramp for a few years, happily. A few glitches here and there, but it
works for me. Unfortunately they now have to charge for the mp3 music
decoder.

This program also works if you simply add the free lame decoder into the
plug in folder for dbpoweramp. You don't have to pay and it isn't much
different then adding a plug in to any of the other players.

I use Winamp, but I saw recently that it may be at the end of
the road as far as new development goes.

RealPlayer! Because it can play everything.

Does it still add spyware?
Winamp works fine for me but I`m not using the computer to listen critically to
music.

After installation you have to turn off automatic update and message
center, and remove the file "C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe", then find a crack to enable
features in the paid version (crackdb.com is one of a few *safe* crack
sites)
