battery

Why when I unplugged the battery does the screen dim? Is there anyway to
change this when it isn't running on the ac adapter? When I have it plugged
in the screen is bright, I unplugged the ac charger and the screen on my
laptop dims.

It's to conserve battery power, idjut.

There probably is an option somewhere in your system to keep it from
doing that.

Spend some time looking for it (i.e, RTFM)

Go to power options in control panel. There shoudl be screen display
settings for battery and unplugged.

Use the Function button and the brightness up or down buttons to adjust
when on battery power.

I did this and did not see anything to change. I have a Dell Inspiron 8600
laptop with windows xp professional. Any suggestions where I can change the
setting?

Hi,

Go to :
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins8500/en/8500/index.htm#online_documentation

and download the "Tell Me How" help file listed under "HTML Documents. This
document describes exactly how to change the display brightness.

An addition. Look under the "Contents" heading "Using the Display". The
very first item discussed is adjusting the brightness.
