Bad TV sound - AIW 7500

I have upgraded my computer from Windows 98SE to Win XP Prof (PC Chips
m/b, AMD Athlon XP K6 900 MHz, 768Mb, on-board sound). Since then the TV
on the AIW 7500 has never worked properly - although it used to work
before. I went through at least two complete uninstalls/installs of the
ATI software but the problems persist; I'm currently running the latest
version appearing on the ATI site (4.2, 8.9); the latest is that there is
a strong crackling sound when the TV is on; that sound persists even when
the external connection of the AIW card is not connected to the sound
input. The documentation talks about about a screen that I can use to
assign the sound to the TV (line in, ...) but that screen never appears
in the Wizzard.

Before I upgrade the motherboard/CPU does anyone have a suggestion of
things I may try to remove the problem?

Thank you.

First, Install the ATI VIDEO DRIVERS.

Second, Did you Download and Install these below FIRST?

Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0 and Windows Media Encoder 9.0 must be installed
prior to attempting to install MMC.

Last, install the ATI MMC SOFTWARE.

Ted,

I had done this before, but I followed these steps again and the same
problem occurs. Somehow I cannot get to the screen that assigns the sound
source from the sound (it's supposed to be in the installation wizzard in
the Display tab of the TV setup screen).

Also, when I install the MDAC, as instructed by ATI, I get an invalid
instruction.

load the tv, choose setup, then in the display tab choose the
initialization wizard

You need to adjust Line-in level of recording control. (Click the speaker
icon to bring this up. Note you need to adjust volume for recording, not for
playback.) The level you need depends on your mobo/sound card combo. You
have to experiment a lot to get the TV sound right. Mine is almost "zero".
Even slightly higher means terrible sound from TV tuner.

Its a know problem and VIA chipset motherboards. Do a google search for
Soundblaster live and via chipset problems.
