Having a separate partition for your backups is a wise idea.
Unless your hard disk has sufficient unpartitioned space (which is unlikely)
you'll need third party software to resize your existing partition(s) and
create a new partition. Try Partition Magic by PowerQuest, er, Symantec. http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/
