Backup Software for XP Pro

Keith

I have just purchased a 300GB Maxtor OneTouch drive for backking up my
Laptop and PC at home.

It came with Dantz Retrospect but I don't like the software too much.

Can anyone recommend any good software for backing up XP Pro to a
USB2/Firewire drive?

I use Veritas at work but of course this won't work out of a network.

Commercial or Shareware/Freeware - anything considered.

I prefer a cop-type backup so my files are still in their original format
and structure rather than a "stuff it all in one big file" type of backup,
and something that would backup open files would be good so I can do full
backups of working systems.

Thanks

Ghost 9.0 and Drive Image 7.03 backup the entire partition. You can then use
the image explorer to extract one, or many, individual files from the huge
image file. You can also, of course, restore the entire hard drive in case
of a major system malfunction.

Try backupmyPC from Stompit. I beleive it replaces backupexec which
was designed to backup local PC.

There is a trial version available for download. Just be aware (it is
not mentioned anywhere) that scheduled backups do not function in the
trial version.

Thanks,

Thanks

I have used Ghost many many years ago to clone machines. I never thought of
using it for backup. I will download a trial of v9 and give it a go.

Drive Image is now apparently owned by Symantec and has been replaced by
Ghost!

I suggest BackUP My PC from www.stompinc.com, which is by Veritas and
hence both familiar and of good repute.

You might also consider an imaging product for storing an exact
compressed image of your C: partition for restore in dire emergency. I
use the Image For Windows from www.bootitng.com for this
