XP Pro Backup, Saving Options&Settings in .JOBs

D

Derz

Saving Backup "Jobs" in XP Pro SP3 Backup (Veritas) only appears to save your
Directory/file selections in the .BKS File.

Other important settings like the options, and the Backup File Name are not
included.

This makes it impossible to create one Backup Job for Daily Backups and
another for Incremental.

Am I doing something wrong or is this the way it is supposed to work?

Try running the file transfer wizard from the xp cd,set as old computer,
set to choose what files to save, save the data in a new folder you
create,once
its thru, move folder to cd,dvd,etc..This backups all the user
files,settings,etc..

The backup .log should show all that.

Sorry Andrew. I don't know what you are trying to tell me. I do not knoe
how to access the transfer wizard, and even if i did, how would that help me
in creating a backup job file .BKS?

Thanks Twayne,

I do not care what is in the log.. I want to create a Backup job I can run
on demand (.BSK)

I want to select from the Menu Job -> Daily
and it loads the settings for an incremental load

Then, If i Select Job ->Full
It should load the settings for a "Normal" backup.

These are examples of options settings that are not dtored in the .BKS

Umm, sorry about that.

If it's the batch file giving you problems, I'd check in
alt.msdos.batch.nt which is a group that specializes in XP batch files.
They are excellent there and many still work in the industry with DOS
files. Be sure to let them know your expertise level or you may not
understand the snippets & samples they give you<g>.
You'd have to find a server that still carries the alt.* heirarchy;
there are a lot of them still around, like eternal-september.org.

Of course, Task Scheduler could run the backups/batches on a schedule,
too. Say a Full every month and incrementals in between or whatever you
may need.

Twayne`
