Backup - program not included in System Tools

I have Windows XP Home Edition with SP2. I want to run a backup of files but
when I go into System Tools the program is not there. Am I missing
something? How can I run a backup?

Home does not contain ntbackup. You can download it from the XP CD.

Home does not contain ntbackup.

Sorry, that's *not* correct.

Backup is installed automatically on XP Professional, but not on XP
Home. If you have the complete XP Home CD, find backup on the CD, in
\ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUP and install it yourself by doubleclicking the
file ntbackup.msi.

If you don't have an XP CD, you can download ntbackup.msi at
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi Also see
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=302894

You can download it from the XP CD.

No, but you can *install* it from the XP Home CD.

That is what I meant by "does not contain".

The NTBackup program is not installed on XP Home for a reason and that is
because it is a POS. Most home users will be wanting to backup to an optical
drive like a CD-R/W or DVDRW and the NTBackup does not have that ability. It
is really designed for creating backups to tape drives or a second hard
drive. While it is true that retail copies of the XP Home CD contain the app
in the ValueAdd directory and that it can be install manually you will find
that the version that ships with XP Home is further stripped down to not
enable an ASR or full system backup. If you want to do a decent backup job
get yourself a third party solution. There are plenty of low cost and even
free file backup programs available that are far superior to NTBackup.
