Backup: append or replace

Will someone offer me some guidance when using Backup as
to when one should use "Append this backup to the media"
and when one should use "Replace the data on the media
with this backup"? I can't seem to find any in the
Knowledge Base or anywhere else on the site. Thanks.

Hello,

Append is "add to your existing data"
Replace is "destroy your old data and replace it
with new"

It depends on what you do. Is your computer running
properly? What I would do is Append. What are you doing
as backup software, the native Windows XP Backup
program? I recommend Dantz Retrospect and backup your
data to an external hard drive.
