Backup and synchronizing software

I have tried 4 or 5 software packages to backup my "archive" partition
to my "backup" hard drive. They all do a similar job but one feature is
missing. -- the ability to run in the background and backup as I am
working. ie as I add files to the "archive" or take files away form the
"archive" the software would immediately detect a change and update the
"backup".
Can anyone recommend sofrware to do this?

Would be helpful if you mentioned what software you have tried, to
prevent someone suggesting what you have already tried I mean.

If you mean also delete files from the backup (target) after they have
been deleted from the source, then I think a backup program is not
what you need, but a synchronization program.

Have a look at <http://www.syncback.com/> and see if it will do what
you want. I think it will, but not sure as I haven't used this program
my self. Only looked at it, and noticed it offers synchronization
option in addition to backup. I does not run in the background to
monitor changes for you, but you could run it at frequent intervals,
as often as needed. See the help file about using windows task
scheduler, then use that feature to launch it as often as you need
(frequent intervals).

All the best,

Hi, SyncBack v3 supports background backups and synchronizations. The
older v2.2.1 did not. See http://www.syncback.com/ for more
information.

Thanks,

Not quite "immediate" but Karen's Replicator can be scheduled to do it every
minute. Can remove archive files/folders that no longer exist on the drive
being replicated. Works well.
