Backing up data

I'm trying to determine how to back-up data to CD from programs like QuickBooks, etc. The backup utility in QuickBooks will not allow me to back-up directly to CD the way I used to back-up to floppy. So, I've tried going to the start menu, selecting the program and sending it to the CD drive. Windows then indicates I have files waiting to be copied to CD and everything seems to work fine. My question, is am I actually backing up the entire program (which would be OK), or just data (which would be OK) or just the shortcut for the program? I question this because: today I used QuickBooks. Afterwards, I tried accessing QuickBooks from my previous back-up CD. When I did, it took me to QuickBooks with the changes that had been made today, not my previous data as I had hoped. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You will probably need to use a third party software to
back up the information. I use roxio easy cd creator,
where I would go to make a data cd, and then I would go
through something similar to windows explorer to select
certain files and folders to copy to cd. This will only
backup the information and not the program. Some other
software allow for a drag and drop application.

You need to find out where the data for Quickbooks is being stored. If you
select the icon for quickbooks, you will not backup the data. More than
likely the data is stored under C:\program files\intuit or c:\program
files\quickbooks. If you search in there, you should find a file name that
corresponds to your business name or whatever you setup your Quicken
accounts under. This will be the file that you want to send to CD. For
Quicken, there is a seperate folder setup called Quicken Backup that stores
the backup files. If you have a similiar folder for Quick Books, you can
backup that folder.

You can save files you are working on to your CD Device from Quickbooks if
you use one of the work-arounds here
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/saving_files_to_cd.htm

However as someone else suggested it will work better if you use third party
software which uses packet writing.
