I would like to install Azureus Bittorrent client on Vista RTM, but cannot
seem to get around all the problems with Java etc. Has anyone done it ? or
could anyone offer me some guidance.

I had no problems getting it installed, after I the Java stuff installed,
which was a simple matter of downloading and installing the latest JRE.

I find that uTorrent is better. (it's actually mu-torrent (greek letter)).
More lightweight, and works really well.

Thank you all. I am having some difficulty in getting the appropriate Java
installed. I heard that there may be some problems of conflict with Nero 7,
which I have installed. It appears to install, but on subsequent attempted
installation of Azureus I get a message indicating that it cannot find the
main program.
As for Utorrent, I find it hard to get an aceptable download speed from it.
Is this to do with 'port forwarding' or is there a simpler approach ? I use
a wi-fi connection to the internet.

well,
for java-go here-and pick the jre one-
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Release Candidate
The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java
applications.
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/ea.jsp
then dload it.
for nero;dump it
for utorrent; and azureus-
fiddle with settings-
btw-you'll hit a wall in Vista; that was present in xp too-sometimes with
those p2p apps-you'll run into a 10 tcpip connect/ per time limit.
it might drop your connection.
can't remember the exact event id.
think it's 4072

The ports are fine if there's a green tick in the statusbar. UPnP didn;t
work for me - so I forwarded the ports manually in the router interface.
I'm not sure if that is a Vista problem or my elderly router.

Jeff:
You say - for nero; dump it
I regard Nero as a very useful piece of kit. Is there something I should
know about Nero and Vista ?
It doesn't seem a fair trade to ditch Nero for Azureus particularly when
there are alternatives to Az. That's why I ask
are there other problems with Nero?
Thanks for your help.

I found out why Azureus starts up slowly - I have uPnP enabled on it but the
Windows Firewall wasn't letting the UPnP traffic through to my router (which
has the torrent ports manually configured anyway). Disabled uPnP in Azureus
and now it works fine.
