AVG Resident Shield

SeaJay

AVG Resident Shield indicates that I have a Virus Trojan horse
Downloader.Stubby.B in C:\System Volume
Information\_restore{...A0028914.exe} To remove this virus, please run AVG
for Windows

I run AVG and it comes up clean, No Viruses Detected ... yet, I still
receive the above notice

System: XpPro w/all UpDates

Any assistance as to how to remove the above file or the restore data would
be greatly appreciated...

Thank You!

Hi Seajay

You will need to stop/start System Restore - this will, however, delete all
existing checkpoints:

Right click on My Computer, select Properties and then the System Restore
tab. Enable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and click Apply>OK.
Then reboot your PC. After that first reboot go back into System Restore,
disable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and click Apply>OK. Then
reboot your PC again. After this second reboot the virus would have been
deleted and you will have a newly created checkpoint.

Hi SeaJay
That means you have the virus file in your system restore files.
Virus scanners don't get into those files.
You have to turn off system restore and reboot your PC and that will delete
ALL your restore points.
Then turn system restore back on and check to make sure you have a new
restore point.
Hope this helps you.

Viruses in the System Restore data folders are totally encapsulated
and cannot cause any harm unless and until you use System Restore to
put those file back into use.

The quickest and safest way to clean up System Restore data is to
launch Disk Cleanup (in All Programs - Accessories - System Tools) and
go to the More Options tab. In the More Options window click on the
Clean Up button in the System Restore (bottom) section to remove all
but the most recent System Restore point.

Hint: If you create a manual system restore point just prior to
launching disk cleanup then you will be certain that the restore point
files containing the virus will be deleted.

Good luck
