AVG and OE6

I know that many on this newslist are using AVG and recommend it.

I am using the latest free edition AVG on XP Home with Outlook Express 6 and
Zone Alarm.

One of the options in AVG is to check and "certify outgoing mail", and both
these options are checked on in my setup. However I noticed that some mail I
receive from others has

"Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
Version: 6.0.507 / Virus Database: 304 - Release Date: 8/5/2003"

added below the signature, whereas my outgoing email does not.

Anyone know why not?

Could it have to do with the fact that I changed the message store folder in
OE to somewhere other than the default (actually to my Data partition)?
This was done before installing AVG and OE as no trouble finding the data
files.

I also use OE-Quote fix. Could that have something to do with it?

Something else?

Do I need the Outlook Express 5.x plug-in even though this is OE6?

I checked the AVG FAQ and website and could not find the answer and they do
not seem to have a newslist.

All you can do is contact AVG about this problem. This Newsgroup is for
support with Windows XP and other Microsoft Products. Your problem is with
a third-party program.

If you want AVG support, check their website - in order to call them you'll
need to buy their full product (the freebie is unsupported). I would
definitely buy it; it's good stuff.

Enable the plug in, check the tabs in the GUI to make sure that certify mail boxes are checked.

Dear Jeff
Enable the plug in, check the tabs in the GUI to make sure that
certify mail boxes are checked

I had done all the above except for the OE5 plugin, since I did not know if
that was the right thing to do with OE6. Once I activated the plugin, all
worked well.

Thank you for the help and to the moderators:

please forgive me for the OT question. You guys are just wonderful.

There are no moderators, just average (whatever that is) computer users trying to help where we can.

For myself I would turn that 'certify outgoing' off. I know I would
give no trust to seeing it with mail - it would be far to easy for some
malicious mailer to forge

Agreed. "Certified" virus free messages remind me of those "certificates of
authenticity" that are touted in commercials for collectibles of dubious
value. Those are trustworthy. Yup! ;=)

I agree in general, but it does have its uses. When I set up someone's
computer who knows little about computing, and set AVG to auto-update, I'm
always glad to see they have the latest update at the bottom of an email.
