AVG 8.0 ON VISTA WITH WINDOWS MAIL

O

Old Bleus Dude

I was using avg 7.5 without problems. Since installing AVG 8.0 my email
scanner stopped working. It says, " no email client plugin installed".
Can anyone help me out with a solution? (I know I can disable the scanner,
so something esle please. Thanks OBD

If you want to occasionally have problems in Windows Mail caused by the
email scanner, leave it enabled. If you'd rather prevent the problems,
uninstall AVG, then do a custom install where you tell it to leave out the
email scanner.

Thanks for the response. I managed to fix the scanning problem with AVG 8.01
by downloading it for the 3rd time, and reinstalling all componets. After
that my email scanner was running and functional. The red flags on the tray
icon are gone and in the AVG overview, it says fully functional. The tray
scan notification box pops up for large downloads. It does still say the no
e-mail client plugin installed, but all is green and working. ...OBD

Old Bleus Dude,

You might want to look a Avast instead of AVG. I used AVG for years, but
Avast for me does a better job a catching those little critters than AVG.
One of the better features of Avast over AVG is the on demand option to turn
off providers without uninstall and doing a custom install such as you had
to do.

I am Running AVG 8.0 on Vista and I am receiving e-mails ok, but I can't send
or forward e-mails. I get this error message. Can anyone help.

:Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible

Does your connection to that server cross over from one internet provider's
equipment to another's before it reaches the server? If so, such
connections to
port 25 are likely to be blocked to cause trouble for spammers, and you need
to ask wadsnet.com if you have the option to use some other port instead,
and
if so, where to find the details. Just trying all the ports is a very slow
way to
find out, since there are about 65,000 ports available and it is unlikely
that
more than a few of them will accept outgoing mail.

Also, did you use the standard install for AVG? If so, it often helps to
uninstall
it, then do a custom install where you tell it to leave out the part that
scans
email.

When you installed AVG 8.0, did you choose the custom install
option, which then enables you to forego installing the
troublesome mail scanning module?

got the same problem, no email service via windows mail, getting error
0x800ccc0E on port 110. uninstalled avg8 all works well, read email via
isp no problem, avg8 is now a big problem, wish i had never deleted
avg7.5, grisoft will upset many happy users if they fail to let us know
how to sort this out, we are not all computer experts

See if this helps you find how to complain to them, since they're more
likely to be able to something about it than we can.

Did you use a standard unstall for AVG? If so, it often helps to uninstall
it, then do a custom install where you tell it to leave out the part that
scans email.

If that doesn't help either, you can uninstall it and install avast!
instead,
using the same custom install. I've had no problems from such a
custom installed version of avast! since I installed it months ago.

Did you ever have a Norton or McAfee antivirus installed on that
machine? If so, let us know, and we'll tell you where to find the
cleanup procedure often needed since the uninstall programs for
them frequently fail to remove the parts of them that cause problems
in Windows Mail.
