problem with sending email, vista mail

Installed AVG 8.0 upgrade to antivirus. Installed patch from Microsoft so
system would not slow down for 32 bit system as instructed prior to
installation of AVG. Now cannot send emails. Receive the following
message.

The connection to the server has failed 'Fw:FW'
Account:'mail.comcast.net',Server:'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP,
Port:25, Secure (SSL): No, Socket Error: 1--60, Error Number: 0x800CCCOE

All connections to internet are extrememtly delayed. Incoming mail takes
forever to arrive and scan.

Suggestions are very welcome.

First, uninstall AVG to see if that cures the problem.
If so, reinstall AVG using the custom install option, which then
enables you to deselect the mail scanning module.

Comcast has started requiring users to change their outgoing port numbers,
but has been rather poor at telling their users in advance.
