AV, ZA, etc. settings?

Have 3x systems. All 3 have same programs except a new one.
Norton AV, Zone Alarm Pro, Win XP. All kept updated.
My new system has, instead of NAV, free AVG antivirus.
All run cable highspeed. 2 run through a router/LAN at work. One at home is
here at home and runs direct, through cable modem.

Trying to find link that will show "best" settings so all 3 programs work
together? Just upgraded all to WINXP(2).
My NAV is about to expire and thinking about switching to AVG.
Understand that ZA is a better firewall than XP. But should I turn off WIN
firewall?

Thanks,
L.

....ahem ...cough...splutter ...ANY firewall is "better" that XP's
but, check out your ports at http://www.grc.com "Shields-Up"

....ZoneAlarms Truevector service is a nightmare, I've had to remove it from
several machines so that Micrografix graphics application software works
properly ...or was it Adobe ....pretty sure it was Micrografix that wouldn't
coexist with ZA.

Thanks for the advise/comments.
I haven't had any problems, so far, it's just that ZA checks e-mail and so
does AVG. Not sure if I need both ON.?. Plus, WinXP firewall is on on one
system but off on another.
I have noticed that NAV pops a screen, here at home, that tells me it
blocked a worm. Don't get that at work but am guessing that the router/LAN
is stopping attempts at work so I don't even see them.
ZA does recognize NAV but not AVG.

That's what I'm after, settings...

Running NAV 2004, ZA Pro, and XP HE.
Windows firewall is disabled cuz I set it that way, not ZA. If you want ZA
settings down the line for your system, check at the zonelabs forum site.
I'm not prepared to divulge my ZA Pro settings. Setting for LAN system vs.
standalone will be slightly different.
NAV and ZA Pro both monitor my email. Turn it off it gets to be problem,
sending or receiving. Get mailwasher pro to check your email before
receiving in your mailbox.

All 3 seem hunky-dory here.

Providing the versions of all 3 may get more bites for information.

ZA is a two way firewall. ie outgoing and incoming. XP firewall is
incoming only.

I may be mistaken, but, if you have ZA on, the Windows firewall, although
set to be on, is really not. One of the MS-MVP's told me about that.
Usually, dual scanning of email is not advisable......much to often there
will be conflicts with the two apps trying to gain control. As far as ZA
goes, I have been using ZAPro for years now without any problems or program
conflicts, I don't have Micrografix, however. There was a problem with
some of the earlier versions of ZA that would prevent auto SR points from
being created in Windows Me, but, not aware of anything with XP. YMMV.

NO need to set auto scaning of email at all. If there is a nasty in the
email download attachment, your 24/7 anti-virus will catch it anyway.
Best bet tho, is NOT to even download ANY attachments you are not
expecting.
