network functions fail

OE downloads new messages in newsgroups, and sends posts I've written.
Time adjustor (atomic clock) works, and mail sends and receives, but not
A/V update.
Browsers "time out". This began when I removed zone alarm v. 7, because it
was so slow to load on startup, and installed a v.6 copy. System is
cluttered with unremoved ZA files. Am using Win xp firewall now. How to
clean computer totally of ZA
trash? With the v. 6 ZA, I used an installer/unintstaller name "Total
Uninstall", v. 2.3.5. On uninstalling the zone beast, TotUn was unable to
remove
many files and piles of registry entries. I can comb registry and remove all
ZA entries, and just delete the stuff in C:\Windows\System 32, but there is
no doubt a better safer way. TIA for any suggestions.

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for
Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any more than 48
hours ago.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.
