Add/Remove Programs Does Not Show All Programs Installed?

In xp pro when I open add/remove Programs there is only 5 entries, & I
dont have any options to Change/Remove. ie. nothing happens when I
click on it.
-Adobe Reader 6
-Highmet ext. to MS Windows xp cd etc.
-HP photo & Imaging 1.0 etc.
-ShareIns.
-WebFldrs xp.
Yet I have over 20 programs installed including Zone alarm pro,
Ad-aware & SpyBot, AVG 6. All these are uptodate.

Checked for reg. - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
and the 'Uninstall' does not exist. Also, I cant see this 'Uninstall'
'string' anywhere in the registry settings mentioned in Kellys' 'xp
a-z'- 'add/remove' tips.
I am logged in as 'Administrator"
From the 'Start - All Programs' nearly all the programs listed here
have the 'Uninstall' function.

I have scoured the forums & read Kellys A-Z. But I am none the wiser.
Even with the programs listed in 'Add/Remove Programs' there is no
'Change/Remove'option.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Alan

Athlon 1g, dual boot 20g(98se) & 40g(xppro), 512ram. xp pro sp1a + all

Assuming this is not a work computer, my first 'hunch' would be that you installed those other applications as another user?

It's just a guess.

That key is central to the Add/Remove (without it I don't quite see how
there is *anything* to show there). I'd suggest as a start trying to
get back to a registry that still had it - use
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore
to go back to a suitable earlier point, as far back as you can without
either losing major program installs you know you have made since, or
trying to go back past the install of SP1

OK. Will give a go. The worst that can happen is to go back as far as
16/2/2004, the day I installed xp pro & reinstall any programs etc.

I don't know what your original post was, but before doing a System Restore,
please check the path again:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

If your issue has to do with great amounts of white space between listings,
this can be corrected.

I dont have great amounts of white space between listings. ( I have
read your tips under 'Add/Remove') The 'Uninstall' string just does
not exist in the registry.

Hi,

There are some current spyware, etc which has an impact on Add or Remove.
Other than that, run the edit on line 146 (right hand side) if you haven't
done so already.

Good luck!

Hello Kelly,
I am now out of my depth, in that where is or what do you mean by "
run the edit on line 146 (right hand side)" ?
Thanks, Alan

Hello Kelly,
Applied the reg. patch & I now have an 'uninstall' string, which only
seems to have 'microsoft' type programs/accessories in the list. None
of my other programs appear there.
To complicate things, I had to do a 'repair' instal to try & correct a
problem with cakewalk sonar ie. to a 'standard pc' mode, so now I have
no 'system restore' points to go to. I also had to get xp pro
reactivated via MS telephone here in Australia. Thanks, Alan

Hi,

There is also a restriction that disallows any programs other than MS
showing there. You must have dabbled with these at some point. Good luck
with it all.
