restore points and zone alarm uninstallation problem

H

H. S.

Hi,

I have learned from some webpages and newsgroups items that uninstalling
Zone Alarm can be a pain in the neck. Apparently, it does not clean the
registry during uninstallation. I am working on Windows XP, SP2 and
fully updated.

To get around this problem, would making a restore point just *before*
installing Zone Alarm help in this respect? Let us assume nothing is to
be installed after Zone Alarm installation. Then, to remove ZA, just
uninstall it, and then restore the system back to the state it was in
before ZA was installed (I am assuming system restore makes a backup of
the registry state).

Am I correct in this reasoning? If nor, clarifications are welcome.

No problems here with Zone Alarm (4.5) uninstallation, and have done it on
several occasions. Creating a System Restore point is unreliable because it
FIFOs the Restore points regularly, and the pre-installation snapshot may
get erased at any time.
