Just FYI.
My mother's XP SP2 machine would not allow an updated version of free ZA
(ver 6x) to run.....the ZA GUI would report:
System Error, please reboot.
After much Google (+Groups) searching, no working answer was found.....only
that the files <vsdatant.dll> and <vsdatant.sys>, the latter located in the
Windows System32 folder, were at fault. No manner of uninstalling and
installing would allow ZA to run.
The solution: Perform a Custom uninstall, replying "yes" to all of the
items. Then a manual regedit to remove remnants of ZA.
Performed a "Find" for ZA, vs*, Zone Labs and True Vector....NOTE: Be sure
to backup the Reg before the manual cleaning and verify the "vs*" items as
actually associated with Zone Alarm. Installed the new version and it
worked fine. I did have Sygate and Kerio standing by, just in case. <g>
