AutoRun not working

My AUTORUN is not.

Besides my CD-R and CD-W, I have a zip drive and a 8-in-one media
reader. AUTORUN does not kick in when I access these devices. I
downloaded an AutoFix tool from the MS site and that doesn't fix it.

Is the anyway to fix this without reinstalling my OS (XP-Pro)?

Also, I'm curious...what could cause this?
