"Automatic Updates" taskbar icon

Q

Q

God I hate Microsoft.
I installed SP2, and it put an icon in the taskbar that loads EVERY TIME,
asking to enable automatic updates. I don't want to. So what do I have to do
to stop this from loading?
Did I mention that I hate Microsoft?

Then use something else than MS products, or stop whining. In the
meantime go to control panel, security center, and change the way it
alerts you to not alert for automatic updates.

If you right-click on the Start button and choose Properties, then click on
the 'Taskbar' tab, then click 'Customize', you'll see a list of all the
taskbar items that have *ever* appeared. Select each one you want to deal
with and choose one of the options ('always hide', 'hide when inactive'
etc).
If you hate Microsoft why don't you use Linux? :)

Go to start>run and type

wscui.cpl

On the left select "Change the way security Center Alerts Me"

Then deselect "Automatic Updates"

The software base just isn't there for Linux. There's also the learning
curve. At work we use MS.
I still don't like MS tactics.

1) Learn how to use MSCONFIG - search Google for
instructions,or try this: http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/
2) Don't hate Microsoft - they've been criticized for not
emphasizing security enough, so now they're trying to put
more emphasis on security - and they're being criticized,
3) You might try right-clicking on the offending icon to
see what options are available.

Good Luck !
